Join us to see who will be royalty at this year's Popcorn Fest! The 2009 Popcorn Festival Royalty Crowning Ceremony will be held Wednesday, September 2, 2009, 4:00p.m. at REGIONAL federal credit union located at 2801 Boilermaker Court, Valparaiso.
This year only a prince and princess are to be crowned, no queen. To be crowned popcorn royalty, the prince and princess' parents have to fill out a basic application and turn it in to the Valparaiso Community Festivals and Events office. The 2009 deadline for applications was August 14th. Following the initial application, there is a lottery of applicants drawn of 10 boys and 10 girls to interview. The 2009 popcorn royalty interviews were held on August 17th and 22nd at REGIONAL federal credit union.
The official announcement to declare the prince and princess at the crowning ceremony will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2009, also at REGIONAL federal credit union. REGIONAL is the sole 2009 royalty sponsor.
Once “crowned” the prince and princess will participate in the 'week of popcorn' at the tent events such as the kiddie tractor pull and the cutest baby finals night. Important duties include handing out popcorn brochures and talking with popcorn citizens. On festival day, September 12th, they will attend the VIP reception at Butterfield Family Pavilion and then ride in the parade! After the parade the day is theirs to enjoy with their family. Then they get invited back to the next annual crowning ceremony to have some closure and put the incoming prince and princess at ease.
