2016 Women’s History Month Observed at PNW’s Calumet Campus

Purdue-Northwest-colorThe observance of Women’s History Month continues at Purdue University Northwest’s Calumet campus March 22-31, featuring a documentary presentation and discussion of a bestselling book and a panel discussion of local female leaders.

Bestseller book documentary 3/22 & 23
A documentary of the book, “Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women,” will be presented in two installments from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m., March 22 in Room 327 of the Student Union & Library (SUL) and at the same time March 23 in Room 150D (Room with a View) of SUL.

The book, written by New York Times columnist Nicholas D. Kristof and his wife, Sheryl WuDunn, a former Times reporter, encourages investing in the health and autonomy of women worldwide. The authors also advance a notion that nations whose labor forces are comprised of relatively few women are unable to climb out of poverty.

Book discussion 3/29 & 30
PNW Calumet campus Professors Meg Rincker and Lisa Goodnight will lead 90-minute discussions about the book at 12:30 p.m., March 29 and 11:30 a.m., March 30 in Founders Study of the Student Union & Library.

Alumnae panel discussion 3/31
Another cornerstone event of the observance is a 90-minute panel discussion involving eight successful Calumet campus alumnae at 5:30 p.m., March 31 in Room 150D (Room with a View) of the Student Union & Library. The discussion, about the balance of work and life, is motivated by Anne-Marie Slaughter’s New York Times bestseller, “Unfinished Business.”

Scheduled panelists are Versar, Inc. Chief Financial Officer Cynthia Downes; Morningstar Brand Manager Ashley Dudzik; Horseshoe Casino/Caesars Entertainment Regional Vice President of Human Resources Dawn Reynolds Pettit; JP Morgan Chase Bank Executive Director-Market Director, Chase Private Client & Chase Investments Megan Richter; Calumet Area Humane Society CEO Rachel Delaney; Joan E.
