The Porter County Spelling Bee took place on Wednesday night at Ben Franklin Middle School in Valpo. This was the 25th annual spelling bee sponsored by the Sunrise Kiwanis. Fifty-seven fourth and fifth graders from thirty Porter County schools participated in the event.
The students stood and recited the spellings for some very impressive and difficult words. Some of the words spelled included: metamorphosis, tyrannosaurus, , cornucopia, symmetry, and leprechaun.
Fifth grade winners:
Winner: Kalyn Struve from Central Elementary. Parent: Holly Richardson
