American Red Cross Lifeguard/Lifeguard Instructor Certification at the Valparaiso YMCA

Lifeguard-BuoyThe Lifeguard and Lifeguard Instructor programs run concurrently. Certification requires attendance at all classes, competently demonstrating all skills and activities, and receiving a passing grade on final written exams. Class runs Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from May 16–26 at 5–8:30 pm.

Lifeguard Certification enables the participant age 15 and up to develop the skills necessary to become a Lifeguard. Must be able to swim 300 yards continuously and perform deep water brick retrieval within allowed time limit.

Instructor Certification course enables participants to gain instructional skills and experiences necessary to become a Lifeguard Instructor. Must be 17 years of age, possess a current American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid certificate, and competently perform all Lifeguard skills.
