Art in the Garden May 31st

Taltree Arboretum & Gardens will sponsor Art in the Garden, an art fair that blends nature and creativity in a beautiful setting, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 31. The Sunday event is the first of its kind at Taltree, made possible through generous donations from premier sponsor NIPSCO, and intermediate sponsorships from Sue and Ed Spelde, G. E. Marshall, Inc., Jake’s Feed & Garden, Linda Stover with Ameriprise; and in-kind donations from Staples and Porter County Fair Board. A wide array of art in media ranging from oil and acrylic paintings to metal sculpture, fabric arts, ceramics and more will be offered for sale.

Peruse the offerings of more than two dozen artists set up along the perimeter of Taltree’s native prairie and along the wide, sweeping trail along the Welcome Garden. Stop in at the pavilion for food and entertainment and a view of the wildlife activities on the Heron Pond.

The morning begins with the sounds of bagpiper Ryan Freeman as he welcomes visitors to the art fair. Classical harpist Heidi Sullivan will play a soothing medley leading up to lunchtime, and the lively harmony of the Lyrical Flutes ensemble will take visitors into the early afternoon. Ruth Bicknese will coax the event to a stirring end as she creates haunting sounds from a variety of ancient flutes, some of which she made herself.
