As the year comes to a close, Bucher Technologies (BucherTech) is getting ready to celebrate the first anniversary of its new office. Located a short way off U.S. 30 on 2803 Boilermaker Court in Valparaiso, the local IT solutions company’s new home features three suites to accommodate its team.
Long located in the heart of downtown Valparaiso, BucherTech outgrew its old office. Its team of technicians were bumping elbows as its members fielded client calls and assembled equipment – and parking in particular was set to become a challenge as construction on the upcoming city parking garage continues. Now boasting a large parking lot to call its own and plenty of elbow room for the technicians to work, BucherTech is already feeling the benefits of the new location.
“The team has really liked it; they’re saying it’s way better,” said Tim Bucher, president and owner of BucherTech. “Our people can just head out the door, get in their car and drive. It’s just like it was in the good old days downtown. Now, downtown would be crazy – there’s not even a parking garage right now, so I don’t know where we’d put 20 cars.”
Most of BucherTech’s business is remote, and techs need to travel out to their clients’ buildings to meet many different kinds of requests. Bucher crunched the numbers and found that, beyond simply frustrating team members, the hassle and time spent going from the old office to the new parking garage would add huge costs over time. Avoiding that parking situation has made life easier for BucherTech’s employees, saved the business money, and all without clients experiencing disruptions.
“We are constantly surveying our clients and no issues have been flagged as a result of our move,” Bucher said. “Most of our work is remote, so it doesn’t matter to them as long as our techs can get out there.”
BucherTech moved to the Boilermaker Court location in a few phases, with its sales team being the first to make the transition back in January. The tech crew followed in April, with the administration team joining them in May. The building is also host to a handful of other tenants, who Bucher said were welcoming.
“We’re blessed that it’s gone so well,” Bucher said. “We weren’t totally sure how the employees would feel about the new office, but they really like it. The tenants here have also been really easy to work with; it’s been a pleasant surprise.”
There are still a handful of tasks left to finish before the move is officially complete. Most notably, BucherTech’s datacenter is still operating out of the old downtown office as they work to set up a fiber connection and other infrastructure needed to ensure its clients’ data is backed up and secure.
The BucherTech team is looking forward to ringing in the holidays at the new office – which is already packed with seasonal decorations, and will additionally be hosting an open house in the spring. To learn more about BucherTech, visit buchertech.com.
