Security is a primary concern for any business, and today, cybersecurity is a strong focus. New threats to businesses’ networks, digital records, and electronic systems pop up every day. That is why Valparaiso’s own IT solutions company Buchertech hosted a security seminar on Wednesday designed to keep their clients up-to-date on the latest cybersecurity strategies and technologies.
Both current and prospective clients spent the day at Buchertech’s downtown office learning about the current cybersecurity landscape. The seminar featured presentations by leading IT solutions providers that partner with Buchertech, including StorageCraft, SonicWall, and Trend Micro. Ben Bucher, Operations Manager at Buchertech, wanted to keep their clients informed about all their available options.
“There are so many things happening and shifting trends in the IT world,” Bucher said. “It used to be that you had one or two antivirus or firewall options. Now there are hundreds, and everyone’s getting in the game. So the goal here is to educate, and show them our partners who have helped us protect many businesses.”
Cyber threats continue to grow more sophisticated and malicious. Attacks like ransomware are particularly dangerous, launching software that holds its victim’s data hostage unless a ransom is paid. Buchertech and their anti-virus partners like Trend Micro protect businesses’ data, no matter how sensitive.
“Education is so important because the more knowledge users have, the more powerful their environments and workplaces can be,” said Roy Ballard, a Sales Engineer with Trend Micro. “Events like this let clients be less reactive and more proactive.”
Founded by lifelong Valparaiso resident Tim Bucher, Buchertech serves local businesses from all around the Region. They operate under the golden rule, treating their customers as they would like to be treated by providing fair pricing and constant communication and service. Seminar attendees came from all fields of business, including transportation.
“We’ve been working with Buchertech for 16 years, basically since they were founded,” said Boris Matakovic, Chief Information Officer at the South Shore Line. “Security is so important, because sometimes people go about their day-to-day business and lose sight the new threats and what they’ve got to look out for. Buchertech works very closely with us and makes sure we’re up to date.”
