Calvary Link: Batting Cleanup

calvary-link-headerDuring the period of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, baseball may have well been titled the “American Pastime”, but one must consider that in our day and age, with the rise of a plethora of other forms of entertainment, many today have no clue what it means to “bat cleanup”. Let’s just say, the 4th spot in the lineup is where you position the team’s big power hitter - the guy who is known for regularly hitting balls outta the parK - cleaning off the bases.

Ironically though, batting cleanup in our summer lineup at Calvary is a man who is not known for his power hitting ability. In fact, after several years on the softball field with this guy, I’m not sure that I’ve ever witnessed him put one outta the park! However, put this guy behind a pulpit, and it’s a whole different ball game!

Please join me this week in praying for the Holy Spirit to equip and use Pastor John Sloan (former Associate Pastor at Calvary Church) as he returns to Calvary this Sunday, 6.17, to bring us a timely Word from the Lord in Paul’s letter to the Colossians. John will be preaching from Chapter 3, bringing a message entitled “Improving the Gospel”.

Let’s continue to pray together for Pastor Lionel and the Young family this summer, as Lionel is well into the swing of things himself at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom. We can continue to ask the Lord for refreshment, renewal, and productivity that will make a difference for God’s Glory and His Eternal Kingdom!

I am looking forward to worshipping the Lord together with you this Sunday!!
