Crown Point is ringing in 2025 with a new event.
For the first time, the City of Crown Point is hosting a ball drop downtown at Clark and Main streets. The free, family friendly event takes place outdoors from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, rain, snow or shine. There will be outdoor heaters at the event. Please dress for the weather.
“Our team has been planning this event for two years,” Crown Point Mayor Pete Land said. “We’re looking forward to kicking off the New Year with what will hopefully become a signature event for our City and Northwest Indiana.”
Festivities include a beer garden, DJ, fireworks, glow vendors and a countdown. The countdown will be led by Land and a couple getting married at the historic Lake County Courthouse on New Year’s Eve. The couple shared one of their first dates at Square Roots in Crown Point.
“We want this event to scream Crown Point. Having this couple close out 2024 and count down to 2025 with us is the perfect fit,” Land said.
The City worked with Herman’s Christmasland in Pierceton, Indiana, to design the ball, which will drop from a bucket truck at Clark and Main streets. While the design is under wraps until New Year’s Eve, Land said it incorporates recognizable elements of the Hub City.
Main Street will be closed from Joliet to Clark streets beginning at 2 p.m. Dec. 31. No parking will be permitted after 2 p.m. Clark Street will be closed at East and Main streets beginning at 4 p.m.
Beginning at 5:30 p.m., the trolley will visit municipal parking lots around downtown to bring attendees to the event.
Some local businesses downtown will have extended hours and specials for the event. For a list, visit the City’s Facebook page, @CityofCrownPointIN, closer to the event date.
This year, UChicago Medicine Crown Point is co-hosting the event. Sponsors include Butler Fairman & Seufert; Centier Bank; Commonwealth Engineers, Inc.; Culver's; Get Loud Entertainment; LGS Plumbing, Inc.; Premier Porta Potties; Puntillo & Crane Orthodontics; and Quality Impressions Print & Design.
Earlier in the day, the City is teaming up with On the Square Sports Academy to host the Kid’s New Year’s Eve Party. The family friendly event is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 31 at 105 N. Court St. The celebration includes a DJ, magician, face painting, beverages, snacks and more. The event is for children ages 12 and under. The party is not a drop-off event. Tickets are required and available until noon CST Friday, Dec. 27, at crownpoint.info/eventeny.
