A police captain, basketball coach, local DJ, a state senator, and the Mayor of Valparaiso walk into a school...Sounds like the beginning of a joke with a clever punchline, right?
Friday, February 28th was "Celebrity Guest Reader Day" at Saint Paul Catholic School. 11 local celebs visited elementary classrooms to share a love of reading and encourage students to work hard and follow their dreams. This was the culminating event in the school's first ever celebration of Read Across America Week. Inspired by Dr. Seuss (and his March 2nd birthday), the week's activities included "Fox in Socks Crazy Sock Day", a Reading themed door decorating contest, and "Buddy Up and Read Day".
Mrs. Shane's kindergarten class won 1st prize in the Door Decorating Contest for their multimedia Pete the Cat display, while Mrs. Smith's 2nd grade class got 2nd place for their "Horton Hears a Who" door.
Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss and thanks to all the "celebs" that made our day so special!
