Chicago Street Theatre Announces Adult Workshop Series

Chicago Street Theatre in downtown Valparaiso is offering an opportunity for actors in the community to brush up on their skills and challenge their abilities.

Director of Education Lisa Formosa-Parmigiano will begin classes on Nov. 16. All classes meet from 8 – 10 p.m.

The “Building a Character” workshop will allow participants to discover a method-based “Shoes Exercise” sure to originate unique behavior. If you feel as though every character you’ve ever played is just “you” saying different words, this workshop will provide the opportunity to go beyond the ordinary and begin creating extraordinary characters with their own unique sound and movement. If you’ve never created a character and wondered how to begin, come out and play! This class will be offered both Nov. 16 and April 23, 2012.

“From Idea to Page 1” will introduce you to the process of how to get that brilliant idea out of your head and onto that very first page. And who knows, that first page could someday grow into a full-length, one-act, or short play. Participants will actually create the first page of their idea during the workshop. No experience necessary, just bring an idea and a willingness to have fun. CST resident playwright Jim Henry will lead the class. Participants may choose either Jan. 11 or May 16, 2012.

A Master Class, designed to challenge the working actor, also will be offered with Formosa-Parmigiano. Choose Feb. 27 or March 21, 2012. If you haven’t had the chance or time to be on stage, this is your opportunity to either perform in or direct a scene. All scenes will be presented to the CST membership at the March 5 or May 7 salons. Participants should come prepared with a short scene with which they are interested in working.

Tuition starts at just $25. For registration forms, please visit the CST website, www.chicagostreet.org and click on “Get Involved” and then “Classes for Adults.” For more information on the workshops, please contact Formosa-Parmigiano at lisafp@chicagostreet.org
