Community Healthcare System is invested in the health and well-being of the communities it serves. Out of that commitment, its Occupational Health Program was born.
Through this program, employers have access to a variety of services to support healthy workers and workplaces. These services include the treatment and management of workers’ compensation injuries, pre-hire and annual physical exams, drug and alcohol testing and more. All of these services are available at Community Healthcare System’s five Occupational Health clinics in East Chicago, Hobart, Munster, Portage and Valparaiso. Many of those services also can be completed onsite at the employer’s location.
“We’ve been pleased to have that service line for employers,” said Rick Weber, director of operations for the Occupational Health Program. “We’ve always done on-site visits, but we've ramped it up over the past year now that we have created a position for an onsite coordinator.”
The program also has expanded by opening a clinic in the new Immediate Care Center at 10250 Calumet Ave. in Munster. The clinic is open from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.Weber hopes this new location will help raise awareness of the Occupational Health Program.
“Workers often will go to an immediate care center for treatment of their workers’ compensation injury, and that can be because their employer may not be aware there are occupational medicine-specific services available,” Weber said. “Having Occupational Health, with its own waiting area, in one of our Immediate Care Centers allows us to better identify those patients, and they're able to receive the specialized care they need. This will ensure better outcomes for the patient and the employer.”
