Community Invited to Sports Sunday

Sports Sunday in the Park is a family friendly celebration hosted by the Valparaiso Parks and Recreation  Foundation at Butterfield Pavilion at Old Fairgrounds Park on Sunday, Sept. 27th from 2 – 6 p.m, rain or shine.   This free event is open to the public.   All activities are included.  Concessions are available.


Volunteers from the high school athletics programs will oversee sports themed inflatables and kids games from 2 – 4:30 p.m.  Inflatables include football toss, baseball pitch, basketball free throws, and a bungee run.   In addition, the Parks Foundation is proud to announce that two great sports stand-outs from Valparaiso High School, now attending Purdue and Notre Dame, will meet and greet visitors from 2:30 – 3:30 p.m.    

From 5 – 6 p.m., the Parks Foundation is hosting a reception inside the pavilion to celebrate 20 years of service and dedication and will present the first ever Legacy Award to honor a person who has given of themselves to make a significant difference in the parks.  The Parks Foundation is instrumental in helping the park department acquire and develop park land.   Notable projects include, Creekside, ValPlayso, Foundation Meadows and the Service Memorial Fountain.    If you would like to know more about the event, or how you can help the Foundation make a difference, please call the Valpo Parks office at 219-462-5144 or visit them on the web at www.valparaisoparks.org.
