Crown Point Fire Rescue Saves Animals During Home Fire; Cause Remains Undetermined

Crown Point Fire Rescue is continuing an investigation to determine the cause of a house fire on the City’s south side.

At 4:40 p.m. Monday, Sept. 4, Turn 3 of Crown Point Fire Rescue responded to the 600 block of Alice Street for a residential fire.

Upon arrival, the occupant of the home and their dog were outdoors after a neighbor helped them to safety. Several animals were safely rescued from the home.

The homeowner was transported to Franciscan Health Crown Point for smoke inhalation and has since been released.

Crews contained the blaze within seven minutes of arriving at the scene. Neighboring homes were not impacted. The home was left uninhabitable, Crown Point Fire Chief Mark Baumgardner Jr. said.

Several neighboring agencies also responded to the scene, including the Cedar Lake Fire Department, Lakes of the Four Seasons Fire Department, Lake Hills Fire Department, Lowell Fire Department, Merrillville Fire Department and St. John Fire Department.

The cause of the fire remains undetermined at this time.
