Crown Point Fire Rescue to Host Open House

Crown Point Fire Rescue to Host Open House

Crown Point Fire Rescue will host its annual Fire Prevention Open House from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, at the Fire Station, located at 126 N. East St.

This year’s Fire Prevention Week theme is Cooking Safety Starts with You: Pay Attention to Fire Prevention. According to the National Fire Protection Association, cooking was the leading cause of reported home fires and home fire injuries between 2015 and 2019.

This year’s open house will have a variety of activities, including practice fire drills, a fire extinguisher demonstration, a junior firefighter obstacle course, a kitchen fire demonstration and rides on the department’s 1949 American LaFrance pumper.

There also will be booths from community partners, including Crown Point Emergency Management Agency; Crown Point Police Department; Dean and Barbara White Southlake YMCA; Franciscan Health Crown Point Trauma Department and Cardiac Department; Lake County 911; Lakes of the Four Seasons Fire Department; and NIPSCO.

Food, beverage and Crown Point Fire Rescue merchandise will be available for purchase.

“We hope everyone can join us to kick off Fire Prevention Week with another great open house,” Crown Point Fire Chief Mark Baumgardner Jr. said. “We hope everyone pays attention to fire prevention this year and takes advantage of the free resources available during this fun, family friendly event.”

“This event is just one way we try to reach everyone in the community about fire and life safety,” Anthony Flynn, firefighter/paramedic and fire and life safety educator with Crown Point Fire Rescue. “The best emergency we can respond to is the one that never happens.”
