On Wednesday, Sept. 6, Mayor Pete Land swore in the newest Crown Point police officer during the Board of Public Works and Safety Meeting.
Wayne Helm, badge No. 128, is a 2010 graduate of Jo Byrn High School in Cedar Hill, Tennessee. After high school, Helm attended Kentucky Weslyn College where he played football and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.
Helm began his law enforcement career as a security officer with the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office in Nashville. Helm also has served with the Springfield Police Department and the Nashville Metro Police Department.
Most recently, Helm served as a patrol officer with the Valparaiso Police Department. He is a graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Basic Training Tier 1 in Plainfield, Indiana.
Helm’s hire brings the department to 49 full-time, sworn officers.
“We look forward to Wayne joining the CPPD family. His resume makes him a great fit for our department,” Crown Point Police Chief Ryan S. Patrick said.
