American professional ballet company to lead dance workshop, panel discussion
Members of Dance Theatre of Harlem, an American professional ballet company and school, are visiting Indiana University Northwest for a day of programming on Tuesday, February 25.
While at IU Northwest, members of the dance organization will host a dance workshop, as well as a panel discussion focused on successful professional careers in the arts.
Their visit is part of a weeklong state-wide residency with stops in Indianapolis, Greensburg and Bloomington, culminating with an elegant performance at IU Bloomington on Saturday, March 1.
Dance Theatre of Harlem — based in Harlem, New York City — tours nationally and internationally, presenting a powerful vision for ballet in the 21st century. The critically acclaimed company performs a forward-thinking repertoire that includes treasured classics, neoclassical works, as well as innovative contemporary works that use the language of ballet to celebrate the belief that ballet belongs to everyone.

Dancing in the Streets Workshop
10:15 – 11:15 a.m. • Moraine Student Center, IU Northwest
Participate in a ballet warmup with Dance Theatre of Harlem company members and learn steps from Resident Choreographer Robert Garland in a fun, hour-long activity that will culminate in an old-school Soul Train line!

Panel Discussion - In Motion: A Conversation with Dance Theatre of Harlem
1 – 2 p.m. • Bergland Auditorium, Savannah Center, IU Northwest
Attend a panel discussion with Dance Theatre of Harlem artists, as well as with IU Northwest and IU alumni as they discuss their respective careers in the arts.
Events hosted on IU Northwest’s campus are free and open to the public. RSVPs are recommended.
