Dog owners want the best for their furry family members. A fluffy bed, nutritious food, and engaging toys are all desired but the most important accessory for your canine is a great doctor. The vets at McAfee Animal Hospital know what it takes to provide quality care for your pet, dog or otherwise. To keep up with growing demands, the practice recently welcomed a new doctor to the hospital, Dr. Jessica Lisak!
While Lisak is the newest doctor on staff, she is no stranger to McAfee Animal Hospital. When she brought in her pet guinea pig to the practice, she discovered an interest in the veterinary field. “Dr. Larry took the time to explain everything,” she shared. Lisak began working at the hospital at age 16, observing Dr. Larry and eventually serving as a vet assistant through her high school and college summers.
Lisak received her undergrad degree from Purdue and went on to veterinary school there as well. Upon graduating, a position opened up at McAfee and Lisak seized the opportunity. “I knew the clinic and the people that work here,” she said, discussing her decision to come back and work in her hometown. “I wanted to be close to home.”
With Lisak joining the team, McAfee Animal Hospital now has 7 doctors available to serve the Valparaiso community, each with a different interest in pet health. For Lisak, surgery strikes her interest. “I am really enjoying surgeries,” she said, sharing how she performed over 100 spays and neuters during her time at school.
“I like how compassionate the care is at McAfee. Every staff member wants to do what’s best for the client. It’s really good to be back!”
Editor’s note: As a client of McAfee Animal Hospital, our dog, Ruby, was Dr. Lisak’s very first patient! She was very compassionate with Ruby and answered every question we threw at her. As new dog parents, there’s always something to ask about and Dr. Lisak took our questioning in stride and we all left the hospital feeling much better!
