While Flanagin’s Bulk Mail Service delivers quality mass mailings throughout Northwest Indiana, its customer base extends a bit outside the 219 area code. Through this wide array of clientele, Owner Donna Flanagin and her team have been able to connect with a range of businesses both across the nation and even around the world, all through the power of bulk mail.
The range of customer locations is the result of some snazzy digital marketing quips paired with a unique, quality service offered in places few and far between elsewhere in the world.
“Although we work with a lot of local customers, not all our customers have to be local. They can be from anywhere in the United States (U.S.), and sometimes our customers are actually outside of the U.S.,” Flanagin said. “I come across those outside the area interested in our business services every once in a while through word of mouth and things like that. Typically, though, they find me through Google. They generally find me this way because they know what they want, but if you search bulk mail online, bulk email is typically the first thing that comes up, and that is a bit different than what we do here.”
One such customer gave Flanagin’s a call from across the pond one day inquiring about her business services, which then led to the Valpo-based business gaining a client all the way in the United Kingdom (U.K.).
“They produce a magazine, and while they have offices here in the U.S., it was too costly for them to mail the magazines from the U.K. to the U.S.,” Flanagin said. “They would ship me the magazines and give me their mailing list of the U.S. addresses that they want us to mail to. We process the mail just like any other mail that we would do.”
Through this process, both businesses were able to build a quality, professional relationship beneficial for both parties. By choosing the international route, the U.K. business was not only able to save money but also have peace of mind knowing that their mailers were in safe hands – even miles away – by a team who knows the bulk mailing business inside and out.
“If a client has always done their mailers one way, they don't always know that there's another way they can be sent. We can guide clients on those processes and decisions about their mailer as a whole,” Flanagin said. “We can, for example, tell the people in the U.K. if they have a couple of bad addresses in their list and ask them to research them to give us more information so that the mailer actually gets to its destination. If they didn’t know that on their end, they would probably have to pay big bucks to have that mailed from the U.K., and it would never get there.”
A bit closer to home, Flanagin’s has also worked with companies across the U.S., including ones located in Oklahoma and Florida.
“We work with an insurance company in Florida – they send me the product and mailing list in advance, and then we process it monthly for them,” Flanagin said. “There's also a place in Tulsa, Oklahoma that we work with – sometimes they send me customers, and then I do the mailing here.”
Additionally, Flanagin’s works with John Paul II Friendship Center out of Manhattan, New York for its newsletter. A fun part of this project, Flanagin noted, is that she also – indirectly – gets to learn more about a second language in the process.
“They do a quarterly newsletter. Half of the mailing is printed in English and half of the mailing is printed in Polish,” Flanagin said. “I recently learned that it's actually designed somewhere near the Vatican, maybe in Rome, and then it comes over to a place in New York. Then, New York prints it and sends it to me. It's getting dispersed in the U.S., but half of the list includes people who want to read it in English, and there's a list of people who want to read it in Polish.”
