Over 95 Girl Scouts and their leaders gathered at Central Park in Valparaiso on Sunday, Oct. 20 to cheer on walkers for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. The girls made posters and pom-poms and stood along the walking route to encourage all of the walkers in their goal to raise funds for research to find a cure for breast cancer. Many of the girls wore pink in honor of those women and men who are cancer survivors, family members, and those who lost the battle against breast cancer.
Now entering its second century of girl power, Girl Scouts USA is the largest volunteer organization for girls and women in the world. Started by Juliette Gordon Low in 1912 in Savannah, Georgia with just 12 girls, Girl Scouting today has millions of members in big cities and small towns all over the world who contribute to their communities through a variety of service projects like the Breast Cancer Walk.
