Happy Veteran’s Day!

Hello Valparaiso Veterans! Today we honor you! The school were I student teach had an excellent convocation today. The entire school entered the gymnasium in complete silence to honor our veterans. We said the Pledge of Allegiance, and then I was moved by the most amazing rendition of our national anthem I had ever heard. A lone 5th grader stood at the forefront of the gym, singing with no accompaniment. Hearing our national anthem from such a talented singer at such a young age was amazing. She also possessed courage to sing in front of her entire school and our veteran guests.

Afterwards, each grade performed a song with their class. Several readings were given by students about the importance of this day. At the end of convocation, the students quietly left the gym without any speaking. It was an impressive feat. It was awe inspiring to notice the respect that the young children had for our veterans.

I ask that you join them today in respecting the veterans; not only today, but everyday as often as possible. We have many liberties and freedoms that they have fought for or are fighting to protect.

On a side note, I am typing a report up to send back to Purdue University on my student teaching experience. I am more then a little energetic after downing a Rockstar Energy Drink and for some reason feel as though I could shoot lightning out of my fingertips like the Emperor did in Return of the Jedi. Energy drinks are an enigma when it comes to serving size. Looking at the nutrition label, I discovered that the tall can (which almost all energy drinks come in) is actually two servings. Who would open a energy drink, and then only drink half of it though? I have always thought the energy drink tastes like the can if I were to eat the can after drinking the contents, so why would you ever pour yourself a glass of it and lose the mystical connection the drink has with the metal can? Such questions pop into my head when I drink two servings of Rockstar Energy Drink.

Back to my original point, have a great Veteran's Day and be sure to always respect the veterans in your life.
