Hard Work Produces Good Signs that Summer is Here!

As I was driving up Napoleon to Lincolnway in downtown Valparaiso yesterday, I noticed a few city workers removing the spring banners which have lined the streets for a few months now, replacing them with the new summer banners!

I spoke with the three guys exchanging the older "Spring into Valpo" banners with whole new series of "Take it to the Square" banners across the street from City Hall, right over by our offices. What a visual reminder that summer is here!

It amazes me how much work there was to do! There are 50 poles that needed to be changed out, with two banners per pole.In addition to those 100 banners, there are 50 American flags to install as well, along with the larger banners Valparaisians are used to seeing in front of City Hall. As you head downtown, you’ll notice there are five different banners, mixed and matched by these workers in a system they’ve efficiently and effectively put into place so they can bang the whole thing quickly.

Overall, the project takes the workers two days to finish, a lot of work, no doubt. It is the kind of work though, that really helps brighten up the city and highlights many of the areas of focus for the city, like the booming downtown area.  So next time you see a banner on the North side, by the University, or downtown, you can thank these guys for a banner job.

Great job, Martin, Jeremy, Scott and all the other city workers! Thanks for working hard to keep the city looking nice!
