Physicians affiliated with Internal Medicine Associates (IMA) and the Methodist Hospitals GERD Center were recognized by EndoGastric Solutions Inc. for outstanding achievement for their ongoing contributions to treating and improving the quality of life for patients with Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) also known as acid reflux. Gastroenterology physicians Drs. Daniel B. Hurwich, Peter Mavrelis, Ahmad B. Shughoury and Kumar Venkat have performed over 250 Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication (TIF) procedures, a highly successful procedure to repair the antireflux valve with no incisions.

The co-management arrangement has enabled Methodist Hospitals to increase the number of endoscopic procedures it conducts by more than 2,500 annually. The co-management agreement is an arrangement where physicians and Methodist Hospitals share involvement in the daily operations providing the opportunity to deliver high quality, coordinated care with the focus on outstanding patient outcomes.
