Introducing STUNT at PNW! Questions and Answers

There are many questions when it comes to the NCAA emerging sport STUNT at Purdue Northwest. Below is a Q&A:

What is STUNT?
STUNT, one of the fastest growing sports in the country, incorporates skills derived from cheerleading.  STUNT is an exciting head-to-head game between two teams who execute skills-based routines in various categories – partner stunts, jumps & tumbling, pyramids & tosses, and team routines.

A STUNT game is divided into 4 quarters. Quarter 1 is partner stunts. Quarter 2 is pyramids and tosses. Quarter 3 is jumps and tumbling. Quarter 4 is a full routine with coaches of each team). Each team performs the same routine at the same time. A panel of judges will decide at the end of the round who performed the routine most accurately.

STUNT is a very engaging sport with the crowd. The music playing during each routine is high energy and the athletes feed off the crowd's excitement. Some home teams have noisemakers like horns or drums and games can get very intense if the teams are closely matched. At PNW, we will create an amazing STUNT environment in which student-athletes will always want to compete at their highest level.

.
How many games do you play per year?
Teams are required to have 8 games per year, but most teams play 12 to 16 games a year.  Most games are about an hour, so scheduling weekend tournaments is relatively common.

Who will PNW compete against?
The Pride will play a variety of different teams. Since STUNT is an NCAA emerging sport, not every school in the conference has a team, so PNW will play many different programs. This can include DI, DII, DIII, NAIA, and club teams.

How many student-athletes are on a team?
In the first year the PNW Pride STUNT program goal is 20 student-athletes. The maximum STUNT roster size is 36 student-athletes for a game.

What is a STUNT group?
A stunt group has a main base, a back spot, a side base, and a top girl. Each position has a different responsibility for each skill performed.

How can fans support the team?
Come to every game ready to cheer and yell as loud as you can! The Pride are hoping to have the best home court advantage of any team in the country, and we will need every fan's help to accomplish that!

What are some team goals?
The Pride want to be able to perform every routine that can be called in a game and perform it as close to perfection as we can. The PNW Pride will focus on excellence, getting better every day and building a strong team culture.
