Junior Girl Scout Troop #30301 from Heavilin Elementary School in Valparaiso recently donated and planted 3 lilac trees to add to the landscaping of Valpo’s newest school. Adult volunteer leaders, Amy Parsons and Kelly Balla guided the girls in raising money, selecting the kind of tree, and creating a ceremony to dedicate the trees.
Each of the 5th grade Girl Scouts brought a small bag of from a place that is special to them and then poured the dirt into the holes they dug for the lilacs. They also spoke about the importance trees are to our environment as well as making a lasting memory for students in the future.
Jerry Pinkowski of Pinkos Landscaping selected the appropriate lilacs and showed the girls how to plant.
