KANKAKEE VALLEY REMC OPERATION ROUND UP AWARDS VNA MEALS ON WHEELS $10,000 GRANT

KANKAKEE VALLEY REMC OPERATION ROUND UP AWARDS VNA MEALS ON WHEELS $10,000 GRANT

Kankakee Valley REMC Operation Round Up recently presented a $10,000 grant to VNA Meals on Wheels of Porter County to help continue their mission to make best days possible for seniors in the community, providing nutritious home delivered meals along with a wellness check to those in need.

"Our main goal at the VNA Hospice is to help people remain independent, be in charge of their own decisions, and do all of this with dignity and grace. Our Meals on Wheels volunteers and partner Pines Village Retirement Community help us do this every day for our valued seniors in our community. We are so grateful for Kankakee Valley REMC's generosity in helping us serve this mission," said Bob Franko, VNA Hospice CEO.

VNA Meals on Wheels is a program of VNA Hospice of Northwest Indiana. Last year alone, nearly 500 seniors throughout Porter County received a hot lunch and optional light supper, all geared toward the client's particular health and dietary needs. VNA Meals on Wheels strives to keep the cost of meals as low as possible and provides meals regardless of the client's financial situation, thanks to generous community support.

"Operation Round Up applauds the commitment that the VNA Meals on Wheels program has to ensure the health and safety of the community's homebound residents," stated Amanda Steeb, director of marketing and communications for Kankakee Valley REMC.  "A mission of Kankakee Valley REMC is its commitment to the community.  We are fortunate to have organizations like the VNA whose mission aligns with ours and makes the community their top priority too."

Kankakee Valley REMC is a rural electric membership cooperative serving approximately 18,000 member-consumers throughout the counties of Starke, Pulaski, Porter, Lake, Marshall, St. Joseph, and LaPorte.  As part of this organization, member-consumers can round up their electric bill each month to contribute to Operation Round Up Trust. Founded in 2000, Operation Round Up Trust today has provided more than one million dollars to support the work of non-profits in the community.
