Located about 60 miles east of Chicago, Kankakee Valley REMC is a not-for-profit energy cooperative delivering electricity to 18,000 northern Indiana families, farms, schools, and businesses. We are seeking applicants for an Engineering Supervisor. This person will be part of a team that performs the planning and design of the Cooperative's electrical distribution system, including substation design, distribution, and coordination studies; general distribution planning equipment specification and purchase; co-generation/small power production; cost estimating; budget preparation; permitting; public hearings; relay and control design and protection.
Management
- Works as a team member with the CEO and staff to develop methods to provide effective, efficient daily operations.
- Performs management functions of organizing, budgeting, coordinating, and controlling the engineering activities in accordance with established policies, plans, and objectives of the REMC and provides a means of measuring progress and accomplishments.
- Assures appropriate career development of employees in the Engineering Department.
- Develops and maintains REMC policies and procedures relating to engineering design, construction, and maintenance methods to ensure system reliability and performance
- Provide technical support for the safe efficient use of electric energy and services for REMC personnel, management, directors, and customers.
- Attends courses and meetings that will improve management or technical skills and increase knowledge of new technologies.
- Analyzes and evaluates new engineering technologies and methods which would benefit the REMC.
- Administers and maintains contracts applicable to the work effort per internal practices.
- Provides advice, assistance, and leadership for enlisting the employees' participation and interest in the REMC's business activities.
- Attends board, committee, and Annual meetings as requested by the CEO or Board of Directors.
- Properly uses and maintains equipment assigned to engineering.
- Provides timely customer response by completing Service Watch rotation as scheduled.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations.
Engineering
- Assists with development of periodic system work plans and sectionalizing plans.
- Oversees contracts, construction contractors, and supervise sub-contract crews when working with line personnel.
- Maintain database for system engineering studies to include available fault current, voltage drop, system protection coordination, and line loading with loss analysis.
- Complete switching orders, line balance studies, system protection evaluations, and other operating efficiency studies as needed.
- Assists with substation maintenance, regulator bank operations, recloser, preventative maintenance, and power factor correction stability.
- Develop, update, modify and maintain engineering technical systems as needed.
- Design new subdivisions' electrical system to be economical, environmentally acceptable, safe, and electrically sound.
- Assist staking section with layout of residential subdivisions and industrial parks.
- Monitor the distribution system's preventative maintenance programs.
- Monitor all power quality problems and seek solutions, including line noise and EMF consultations.
- Coordinates with Wabash Valley Power Association and other operations department personnel for the effective use and maintenance of the SCADA system.
- Provides mapping section with mapping information data and verifies data input.
- Schedules construction meetings as needed.
Education and Training Requirements:
- Engineering Degree.
- Five years' experience in utility industry preferred.
- Management experience preferred.
- Valid Indiana Driver's license.
- Knowledge of National Electric Safety Code/NEC.
- Skilled at using calculator, computers, and computer software.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
- Ability to initiate, prioritize, and complete projects with minimal supervision.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to adapt new technologies for REMC's use.
