Keep moving.
That’s a motto that AMA Design and Print Office Assistant, Kathy Catherman, goes by. It’s true in one of her favorite pastimes outside the office, running, and it’s true about how she came to work at AMA as well when she joined the team on recommendation of her daughter when she was looking for part-time work to keep herself active.
And while graphic design was the dream of her daughter, working in the industry has become a beautiful reality for Catherman that she would not trade for the world.
“It just fits working here,” said Catherman. “It’s the right people, the right hours, and it’s something that I enjoy doing.”
Handling the day-to-day operations and working with people has always been something Catherman has been passionate about, although she adds, the clientele she has worked with has changed a little since her previous job.
“Before I came here I was the Preschool Director for Lakeshore Gymnastics,” adds Catherman. “So I went from working with 2-5 year olds to here. Obviously, there was a little bit of adjustment coming to work here.”
“But some days, the adjustment is not as big,” Catherman joked with a smile.
When she’s not in the AMA office, Catherman enjoys the great outdoors and running; an activity she says she got into after the passing of her parents; a sport, she adds, that gives her the opportunity to get outside and clear her mind.
“It’s like you get hooked on running,” Catherman said. “When I started I had just lost my mom and I didn’t want to get in that funk, you know? It’s very cathartic to be out there alone with your thoughts.”
“It helped a great deal since then, and like I said, you kind of get hooked on it.”
Hooked, it’s what Catherman uses to describe the sport she loves and the people she loves working with every day at AMA Design and Print.
“I really love working here because of the people I work with every day here at AMA.”
And has that love of her employees transferred over to a love and interest into graphic design and printing? For now, Catherman adds, she’ll leave that part of the job to the professionals.
“That’s Kelley’s (Schott) job, and I am going to let him stick with that for awhile”
