By: South Shore Line Last Updated: August 19, 2016

South-Shore-Kids-Ride-Free-2016Earlier this year, the South Shore Line (SSL) expanded its Kids Ride Free program. This program expansion is part of the SSL’s ongoing effort to provide affordable and convenient transportation to and from South Bend, Northwest Indiana and Chicago.

Now, with the newly-expanded program, up to three children under the age of 14 may ride the train for free with each parent or guardian. Available year-round, this service is valid during ALL weekend/holiday trains and ALL off-peak weekday trains arriving at Millennium Station after 9:30am CST and departing from Millennium Station before 3:30pm and after 6:30pm CST.

In the coming year, SSL will be offering free rides for various groups. In early August, the SSL offered free rides for educators at all arrival and departure stations, and in the near future, the train will be offering free transportation for daily commuters, military personnel and more. Keep up with the SSL on social media for these special announcements.

Additionally, the SSL offers reduced fares for seniors, military personnel, commuting students, infants and passengers with disabilities on all trains year-round.

For more information on train schedules, discounts and to plan a trip, please visit or download the SSL app (available for iPhone and Android).

The South Shore Line is a commuter rail line operated by the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District (NICTD) between Millennium Station in downtown Chicago and the South Bend International Airport in South Bend, Indiana.
