Natural Childbirth Class
Women who would like to experience a water labor and birth, and explore options for delivering without medications, are welcome to attend the Natural Childbirth Class from 6-8 p.m., Aug. 15, at La Porte Hospital. The program is open to mothers and a support person at approximately 32 weeks of pregnancy. All those who attend are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing. The cost for the class is $30 per couple, and registration is required by calling 219-326-2444. The next class after that is Sep. 19.
Childbirth Preparation Class - Saturday Class
You will learn what to expect during the labor and delivery process, relaxation and comfort tips, and what to expect during your hospital stay, including basic infant care. The program is open to mothers and a support person at approximately 28 weeks of pregnancy. The next classes are Saturday, Aug. 19 or Nov. 18, at La Porte Hospital from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. in the La Porte Hospital Lower Level. All those who attend are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing. The cost for the class is $30 per couple, and registration is required by calling 219-326-2444.
Breastfeeding Class
Do you have questions about breastfeeding? La Porte Hospital has a class that can help. A certified lactation consultant will discuss various techniques including problem solving skills to aid your breastfeeding experience. The next classes are Sep. 5, or Nov. 7, from 6 – 9 p.m. in the La Porte Hospital Lower Level. The cost for the class is $15 per person. Registration is required by calling 219-326-2444.
Birthing Center Tours
The Birthing Center at La Porte Hospital is the newest unit at the hospital, beautifully decorated with hardwood-colored floors and soothing, natural colors. The center features a centralized security monitoring system for infant safety; 10 spacious hotel-like suites for labor, delivery, recovery, and post-partum; private bathrooms and showers; two whirlpool tub suites for water labor and birthing; two family refreshment centers; three medical observations/examination rooms; and foldout couches for a support partner.
