Santa Claus is coming to town once again for the annual La Porte Santa Parade - but with a few minor changes this year, according to City Events & Civic Director Brett Binversie.
Previously held at 11 a.m., the parade will start at 3 p.m. this year on Nov. 26. Additionally, the route will run west along State Street before turning south at Michigan Ave. and looping back down Lincolnway to Plaza 618 - another change from previous years. Binversie said these adjustments will allow for new additions to the event.
"The Santa Parade is a time-honored tradition in our community, and we'd would love to see it grow and flourish," Binversie said. "Not only will moving the time back allow for floats to use Christmas lights, but it also allows us to tie the event into a ceremonial tree lighting at Plaza 618 at the end of the parade. We are excited to also be adding food trucks, hot chocolate and Christmas music to the celebration across the street at La Stitch this year. We hope these additions will draw an even bigger crowd to celebrate the start of the Christmas season."
Applications for float entries are available online at livinthelakelife.org/events/santa-parade. Binversie said participation is free, but all entries must be holiday themed. No political displays or materials will be allowed. Applications are due by Nov. 15.
Binversie said sponsorships are also available for those looking to support the parade. For more information, those interested may contact Binversie at 219-362-2325.
