Last July, Levin Tire & Service Center opened a brand new location in Crown Point. Situated on 275 S. Superior Drive, right off Broadway, the building was designed from the ground up to accommodate the needs of a bustling hub of activity that continues to grow.
Levin Tire offers comprehensive service, covering everything from full engine replacements to routine maintenance such as replacing light bulbs. They take all customers, but the Broadway location was crafted with the needs of the area’s many commercial businesses in mind. That bit of foresight proved a smart bet, according to General Manager Jeffery Russell.
“We thought we’d get a lot of commercial business here, and we’d hoped it’d be a good starting point, but it’s gone past those expectations,” he said. “The commercial business has been very strong. We have some very big accounts, ones with over 100 vehicles. We’re really happy, business like that always helps get a store going.”
One of the understated additions to the building was a set of bays with higher entrances. Those taller entrances accommodate for a much wider range of vehicles. Paired with higher-weight capacity hoists, Levin Tire is equipped to handle almost any vehicle that rolls up to the shop.
“When we designed the building we took into account that a lot of these new vehicles are very tall,” Barry Levin, president & owner of Levin Tire, said. “You can see it with Amazon’s trucks, so we built it around that.”
The Broadway location is Levin Tire’s second in Crown Point, with the other located on North Main Street. Levin explained that the locations have complimented each other very well, reaching more customers and presenting them with more options.
“We were confident that it would be two separate markets, with the store on Main Street maintaining its customer base and this one leaning more commercial, but there are new rooftops going up all the time, and new people moving into town,” Levin said. “The end result is that we really have built out two markets here.”
Levin is also excited at how much his staff and their customers have enjoyed the quality-of-life improvements to the design. Things like a new front desk concept and expanded waiting area have proven popular.
“The building is beautiful and the facility is very flexible,” he said. “We have what we call a ‘pod system’ for greeting the customer instead of a long counter. It makes it easier for them to get around, and the waiting area is more separated from the reception area. It’s a lot more comfortable for the customers. We’re very pleased with the way the whole building turned out.”
The new location is off to such a strong start that Levin Tire is already taking notes on how to apply its strengths to potential future expansions.
“Barry Levin and I built this from scratch with no other template at all, and I think we got it right,” Russell said. “We think it can be a blueprint for the future for additional stores.”
