Links of the Week: Kitchen Utensils, Greg Giraldo, and Does the Social Media Revolution Really Exist?

I love this time of year- for TV fans, its a buffet that keeps on giving.

As many of you who routinely read my blog will know, I've become a bit of a TV-junkie. I've admittedly always spent way too much of my time in front of the tube. Luckily since I've had a DVR, I've been able to watch more TV in the same amount of time. And with all the new fall TV-series debuting these past two weeks, I've had good chance to see everything that looked interesting and everything that looked awful.

(I like to give almost everything a chance-- from Boardwalk Empire to Lone Star to $&*% my Dad Says to Outsourced, I try out almost every show. Some make the cut for me, and some don't.)

It's crazy though to see what shows ultimately make the networks' cuts. Boardwalk Empire (loved critically) got renewed for a 2nd season after just one episode. Lone Star (critically loved) was cancelled after two. $&*% My Dad Says  was panned by everyone who has seen it (including me- it's pretty awful), but has posting strong ratings in its first two episodes. My wife and I recently watched Freaks and Geeks reruns (the all-time "Best Show Cancelled After One Season"), and I'll never understand the thought process behind dropping a great show so early.

Anyway, on the note that the buffet is good this year - not great, but good- here are your Links of the Week:

Earlier this week, one of my favorite comedians, Greg Giraldo, died of an overdose of prescription meds. It's a real shame, the guy made me laugh a ton. Esquire republished a feature they did nearly a decade ago that included Giraldo, when they profiled the comedian after he graduated from Harvard Law School. [Esquire]

Okay, I've been pumping the Facebook movie long enough, and it's finally here. The review from Rolling Stone finalized it for me, I'm going today. [RollingStone]

Color me excited for the NBA season to start up. First off, we've got my baby Bulls growing up with Rose becoming an MVP candidate playing along side the front-court duo of Carlos Boozer and Joakim Noah (and possibly getting Carmelo Anthony!!!), but we've also got the Miami Heat Super-villain trio, and the aging Boston Celtics. Check out this Yahoo profile of the Celtics who talk a lot of trash about the Heat. [Yahoo Sports]

Special shout-out to my wife, who better be reading: "the only 12 Kitchen tools you need". NO MORE APPLIANCES! [GQ]

Malcolm Gladwell, one of my favorite writers, puts to question the "Social Media Revolution". Is it really happening? After reading this you'll likely question your beliefs about if the web is changing who we are and what we do. (And you'll likely take a nap. It's long.) [The New Yorker]

Someone not on the Gladwell bandwagon? The Bajillion Hits guy. Love this website. Here are 12 internet-related shows he just made up. [BajillionHits.biz]
