Local Nursing Student Receives Tricia’s Scholarship

23-Sarah-StroudIvy Tech nursing student Sarah Stroud was recently selected by the scholarship committee of the Visiting Nurse Association of Porter County as the 2013 recipient of the $2,000 Tricia’s Scholarship.

Stroud will attain her Associate Degree in Nursing from Ivy Tech this May and hopes to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Valparaiso University this fall. Sarah has had a passion for healthcare and nursing since she was a teenager. She began her career as a CNA at an assisted living facility and went back to school to obtain her QMA and then her LPN, with a goal to become an RN. During her career as a CNA, QMA and LPN, Stroud said she’s had the pleasure of working along side VNA nurses and is inspired to continue her quest to join their ranks.

The Visiting Nurse Association of Porter County and the family of Tricia Marie Simpson Russell, a nurse at the VNA until her death, established Tricia’s Scholarship in 2008 to assist individual nursing students to advance their education. The scholarship was awarded at the recent VNA Annual Dinner.
