Lubeznik Center for the Arts (LCA) is hosting its free First Friday on Friday, December 6 from 5-8 p.m. (CST).
For December's First Friday, LCA invites the public to join them for the opening reception of the new exhibition, "Healers and Dreamers." All are welcome to enjoy an evening out featuring spectacular art, hors d'oeuvres, a cash bar and chance to meet some of the artists featured in the exhibition. The artworks in "Healers and Dreamers" provide viewers with strategies for honoring and caring for themselves and each other. They encourage grieving and healing the past, creating connection, protection and safety in the present and encouraging dreaming, creative thinking and liberation for the future.
The exhibiting artists include Airco Caravan, Noelle Garcia, Tanya Gill, Rita Grendze, Suzanne Kite + Alisha Wormsley, Alayna Pernell, Red Line Service, Savneet Talwar, Scheherazade Tillet/A Long Walk Home and Rhonda Wheatley.
On display in LCA's NIPSCO Art Education Studios will be two new exhibits by local artists, Teneia Dilosa and Christine Hubbell.
Dilosa, currently based in Portage and a proud native of Gary, Ind., challenges the assumed divide between creativity and analytics, revealing their harmony. The works in "No Dichotomy," created with flowing acrylics and sculpted clay on canvas, offer a minimalist representation of Dilosa's faith. "I believe every thought, perception and lesson has a core essence–both simple and sophisticated, structured yet alive with vision. Through simple lines, shapes and colors, I invite viewers to experience the life lessons and beliefs that shape my perspective," said Dilosa
Area Artist Association member, Hubbell, creates works that blend realism with storytelling, creating intimate and imaginative spaces in which birds, plants and animals take center stage. Rendered in detailed colored pencil, her subjects emerge from layers of handwriting, landscapes and dreamlike settings. Having lived “home and away” herself, she feels a kinship with migratory birds, using her art to explore the complex emotions of coming back to a place that’s both familiar and forever changed.
LCA's free First Friday cultural programs take place on the first Friday of each month. The annual schedule includes everything from exhibition openings to live music and dance performances. All events are free and provide complimentary appetizers and a cash bar.
