Lubeznik Center for the Arts (LCA) will host its annual First Friday Open Mic Night on Friday, January 5, 2024, from 5 to 8 p.m. central. All are welcome to enjoy lively performances, complimentary light refreshments and a cash bar. As always, admission is free.
Hosted by our dynamic emcee Tim Rounds, LCA’s Open Mic Night provides a platform for local performers to share their talents with the community. Musicians, poets, stand-up comics and spoken word artists interested in performing can register online up by visiting LubeznikCenter.org/Events, clicking on “Open Mic Night” and then clicking on “Sign Up To Perform!” Spots are limited and fill quickly, so sign up today!
Janet Bloch, LCA’s executive director said, “Open mic night is one of my favorite First Friday events. The talent out there is pretty amazing! It encourages people to be brave and share their creativity. And I love our supportive audience.”
In addition to enjoying live performances, First Friday attendees can view "Abstraction + Love," LCA’s current exhibition. This exhibition provides a glimpse of where several, mostly Midwestern, contemporary artists have taken abstraction in the 21st century. From the works of Bernard Williams and Sarah Krepp, which are more solidly rooted in historic forms, to the quirky experimental works by Edwin P. Shelton and Roland Santana, to the expressive, humorous animation of Selina Trepp and colorful, unruly inflatables by Claire Ashley, each artist has developed a personal artistic language using varied art making materials, experimentation, upbeat optimism and a big dose of love!
In the NIPSCO Art Education Studios, Social and Learning Institute (SLI) and Paladin's exhibit "Creative Communities" is on display through January 26. The popular exhibition shows off the artworks created by artists with cognitive disabilities in classes Lubeznik Center for the Arts provides. Support from the Duneland Health Council, Inc. and Horizon Cares makes this program possible.
