The Michigan City Police Department has just completed our participation in the OPO Blitz 91 “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” covering the Labor Day weekend holiday. During OPO Blitz 91 the Michigan City Police Department had 4 extra patrols working 17.5hrs in overtime. Officers stopped 24 vehicles.
One arrest was made for DUI with the driver having a BAC of .14, that’s more than twice times the legal limit of .08 BAC. An arrest for Criminal Recklessness with a deadly weapon (The handgun was recovered) and Resisting Law Enforcement, 1 non-custodial arrests for Driving While Never Receiving a Driver’s License.
Officers wrote 6 Citations; 1 DUI, 1 Driving While Never Receiving a Driver’s License, 1 Suspended Infraction, 1 Child Restraint violations, and 2 speeding violations.
Officers also wrote 24 Warning Citations; 2 No Driver’s License in Possession, 3 Equipment violations, 1 Left of Center and 18 warnings for speeding.
In the month of August 2017 prior to Blitz 91, the Michigan City Police Department had 3 extra patrol’s working 7.5hrs of overtime, paid from a Grant issued from the Indiana Governors Council and Officers stopped 19 vehicles for traffic violations.
Officers wrote 17 Citations, 13 for Seat Belt violation, 2 Child Restraint Violations and 2 expired License plates.
Officers also wrote 7 warning tickets; 1 No Driver’s License in possession, 1 Expired License plates, 3 Automatic Signal or Stop Sign violations, 2 Equipment Violations, and 1 for Speeding violations.
The OPO Grant has allowed the Michigan City Police Department to add extra patrol Officers on the street, Officers working the grant can also assist with several calls for service.
Officers of the Michigan City Police Department will continue working this traffic safety grants, including the countywide DUI Task Force to improve the Quality of Life to the citizens of Michigan City.
