The Michigan City Police Department has completed our participation in the OPO traffic enforcement grant for the month of June 2017. We had 8 extra patrols working 22hrs of overtime, paid from a Grant issued from the Indiana Governors Council and Officers stopped 65 vehicles for traffic violations.
There was one arrest with a pursuit and charges of OWI L-6 Felony, Resisting Law Enforcement L-6 Felony and Driving While Suspendered. Prior Officers wrote 20 Citations, 11 Seat Belt violation, 1 Suspended Driver’s infraction, 2 No Driver’s License in possession, 1 Left of Center, 1 Failure to Register a Moped citation, and 4 Speeding violations.
Officers also wrote 47 warning tickets; 1 No License in possession, 1 Expired License plates, 6 Automatic Signal or Stop Sign violations, 1 Equipment Violations, 1 Expired or improper License plates and 37 for Speeding violations.
The Grant has allowed the Michigan City Police Department to add extra patrol Officers on the street, Officers working the grant can also assist with several calls for service. Officers from the Michigan City Police Department will be adding extra patrols in July.
Officers of the Michigan City Police Department will continue working this traffic safety grants, including the Countywide DUI Task Force to improve the Quality of Life to the citizens of Michigan City.
