Monsignor John Charlebois- A Life of Service

Written by Jane Scupham, principal

Monsignor Charlebois was the pastor of Saint Paul Catholic Church from September 1966-July 1998. In his 32 years as pastor, Monsignor accomplished many tasks that helped to build the Catholic community of Valparaiso and Porter County. He took over the shepherding needed for the completion of the building of the new church facility, our present day church buliding, when the former pastor became ill. Monsignor saw the need for a meeting facility and daycare center and added Saint Timothy Center (later called Tiny Tim's) to the church campus. The building of St. Agnes Center in 1997 was brought about by his foresight in realizing the great need for elder care in the community. Monsignor was insistent that Saint Paul Catholic School be as self-sufficient as possible. He helped this happen by promoting the selling of SCRIP in his twice monthly "agricultural" Sundays in the church narthex. Monsignor certainly was a good and faithful servant of God.
