New Senior Pastor at Immanuel Lutheran, Valparaiso

New Senior Pastor at Immanuel Lutheran, Valparaiso

Immanuel Lutheran Church in Valparaiso recently called associate pastor Andrew Fields to be the congregation’s new senior pastor.  Pastor Fields is the son of a Lutheran pastor and has lived in many places in the US and abroad as his father, and then he, served congregations.

Pastor Fields majored in English and Philosophy at Valparaiso University, while also studying humanities at Christ College.  He then studied Mandarin Chinese before moving to Taiwan.

Pr. Fields earned his Master of Divinity degree from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, and is pursuing a doctorate in Missional Leadership from Concordia Seminary.  For his doctorate, he wants to work with Lutheran school teachers to help them provide clear theological and Biblical answers to basic questions about the Christian faith and life, helping students find their identity in the salvation story of scripture and the church

Pr. Fields and his wife, Heidi, married in 1999, and have 4 children:  Mark (19), Joanna (17), Elizabeth (15), and Timothy (13).  Pr. Fields played football, basketball, and baseball in high school, and still enjoys watching sporting events.  He has also learned to appreciate soccer and track, since his daughters participate in those sports at Valpo High School.  He likes to golf, though he doesn’t get the opportunity as often as he’d like.  Other activities he enjoys, when time allows, are playing the guitar, traveling, playing board games, and hiking.

Pr. Fields roots for both the Cubs and the Cardinals, though his ultimate loyalty is with the Cards.  Finally, he has an under-recognized talent:  whistling!

Pr. Fields has been a gift from God to Immanuel members as our associate pastor, and we are sure his gifts will be multiplied towards us in his new role as senior pastor.
