The Greater Gary Training Center's (GGTC) Stakeholders Group will host a Charrette/Employer Focus Session on Monday, February 27, 2017, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the ArtHouse, located at 411 E. 5th Avenue, Gary, IN 46402. The purpose of the meeting is to determine current and future training needs in the manufacturing and information technology industries.
GGTC's plan is to prepare workers for jobs in those industries and thus transform the region's workforce for our collective benefit. The Indiana Manufacturers Association reports that due to "...shortages of skilled and unskilled production workers..." expansion of the industry is hindered. (The Times of NWI, Oct. 20, 2016).
Many across the region have been concerned about building a more employable workforce for current and emerging industries. Last summer, the Northwest Indiana Federation of Interfaith Organizations began discussions with Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson about creating a regional worker training center in Gary. Currently, this group which meets monthly represents both public and private sectors including NIPSCO and AT&T. The group also represents municipal, state and federal governmental entities, non-profit organizations, labor and governmental institutions.
If you would like to attend, please R.S.V.P. by February 24, 2017, via email to: dsandlin@ci.gary.in.us, with the names and contact information of the representatives attending this event.
