Oak Partners’ Clint Henry takes his relationships with clients from the office to the golf course

Although his history at Oak Partners began in 2005, Wealth Advisor and Partner Clint Henry’s appreciation for numbers began even sooner. In high school, he was attracted to the markets in general and enjoyed his math classes, ultimately motivating him to study finance and accounting in college.

Once he graduated from Indiana University Bloomington, Henry held some accounting and related positions at Allstate and a couple other businesses. During this time, he discovered that accounting did not fit his personality and wanted to become a financial advisor moving forward. He investigated the area to find the best place for him to take on this role when someone recommended checking out Oak Partners. He also had a friend working at Oak Partners, who Henry said helped him in the door.

With 16 years under his belt, Henry confidently shared that his current job is exactly what he wants due not only to his duties, but to the community at Oak Partners.

With Team Leader and Partner Marc Ruiz, who is part of the Oak Partners Principal Management Group with Henry, being a founder of Oak Partners alongside his father, Fred Ruiz, and brother, Partner and Wealth Advisor Mario Ruiz, it is clear that Oak Partners was founded on family.

This focus on family has permeated beyond Oak Partners’ origin and has set the tone for the company. Henry’s sister, Crystal DeHaven, also works at Oak Partners as the director of client experience. Whether someone is an actual family member or simply a co-worker, Oak Partners staff members truly view each other as a family.

“It’s just such a family atmosphere here one way or another. We interact like a family,” Henry said.

Extending that care beyond co-workers and using it to develop relationships with clients is, in Henry’s mind, the best part of the job.

“The relationships that I have personally with our clients is by far the most important thing,” Henry said. “During the COVID shut down, I think we realized that more than ever with not having client interactions face to face. That reinforced the idea that we’re in this business for relationships more than anything else– being a part of our clients’ lives as much as they’re part of our lives.”

Henry also enjoys spending time with clients beyond his professional relationships with them, taking clients golfing in Merrillville. He enjoys a variety of recreational activities like cycling and swimming in addition to golfing. He also completed an Iron Man in Louisville in 2016 and a half Iron Man this year.

Much of his free time is occupied by coaching baseball at Valparaiso High School (VHS). He previously coached his sons’ basketball teams, but he began coaching at VHS after he decided that he wanted his kids to have experiences with other coaches as well.

He thoroughly enjoys coaching at VHS, not only because of how great the coaches and kids are to work with, but also because of how he is able to spend time with players who he coached when they were kids.

His three sons are getting ready to go into their freshman, sixth grade, and third grade years. He met his wife, Jamie, at Merrillville High School where he graduated in 1996 and she graduated in 1998. Henry shared that he and his wife just had a fundraiser for the Independent Cat Society.

“She’s a cat lady, and I’m allergic,” Henry said. “I’m only who I am because my wife is greater than me.”
