Valparaiso’s Parkview Elementary was one of five schools in the state of Indiana to receive a grant to implement a Dual Language Program in kindergarten. This $82,567 grant is under the Indiana Senate Enrolled Act No. 267, which provides funding for schools to pilot a program in 2015-16 school year. Dual Language Immersion provides opportunities for children to become proficient in two languages by experiencing curriculum in English and a second language. Research shows that students who participate in Dual Language Immersion Programs develop high levels of proficiency in the second language and English, demonstrate academic performance at or above grade level, and demonstrate positive cross-cultural attitudes and behaviors.
Any families who live within the Valparaiso Community Schools district with students entering kindergarten during the 2016-17 school year can apply for an intra-district transfer to Parkview Elementary to participate in the Dual Language Immersion Program. Parkview Elementary will host a Parent Night on Thursday, March 10 at 5:00 P.M. to share more details about this program to interested families that live within the Valparaiso Community Schools district.
