Two Purdue University North Central faculty members will participate in the Third International Symposium on Service Learning in Athens, Greece, Nov. 22 to 24.
The symposium, "Service-Learning in Higher Education: Educators, Communities, and Students," is organized and sponsored by the University of Indianapolis and will be presented at the University of Indianapolis campus in Greece. Cosponsors include Indiana Campus Compact, Miami University Hamilton, Ohio and Ningbo Institute of Technology, Zhejiang University, China.
The PNC presenters are Carrie Higgins, continuing lecturer of Communication and Dr. Dr. Nancy Marthakis, assistant professor of Biology. Both incorporate service learning experiences into their classroom instruction at PNC.
Higgins will address the topic, "Beyond the Books: Life-long Lessons and Lasting Community Partnerships through Service-Learning." Marthakis will speak to "Preparing Future Undergraduate Students: Understanding the Ethical Needs in Underserved Communities through the Incorporation of Service-Learning in an Interdisciplinary Medical Ethics Course."
