PNC Honors Scholarship Winners and Donors

Purdue University North Central recently honored a number of students who have been awarded a variety of scholarships and endowments for the 2010 - 2011 academic year. This was also an occasion for PNC to thank the individuals, businesses and organizations who have created scholarship funds and endowments and to introduce them to the students who will benefit from their generosity.

Chancellor Dr. James B. Dworkin told the group, "These donors are making a difference in this world. Each has made a commitment to giving - to Purdue North Central, to education and to the community."

The scholarships presented and the award winners are:

  • Dale Alspaugh Fund - designated for students selected as Chancellor's leaders on the Purdue University North Central campus - Dylan Caggiano, Wheatfield; Samantha Sims, Bremen; Sarah Redmond, Valparaiso.
  • Barbara Bell Blake Nursing Scholarship - for LaPorte County residents who are graduates of a United States high school and are pursuing a degree in Nursing at Purdue North Central - Rebecca Ehrick, LaPorte.
  • Lucille & Gayle Bluhm Scholarship Fund - supports students primarily in the School of Nursing at PNC - Kelli St. Myer, Valparaiso; Kaitlin Croarkin, Valparaiso; Alivia Sims, Bremen.
  • Anita Bowser Scholarship Fund - for students in the Department of Social Sciences in the College of Liberal Arts - Jennifer Evan, Valparaiso.
  • Virginia Mueleman Brelje Memorial Scholarship - a merit-based scholarship for junior and senior English majors at PNC - Renee Mangold, LaPorte.
  • Robert L. Carr Jr., Memorial Scholarship - supports undergraduate scholarships for PNC Nursing students - Katie Pearson, Hebron.
  • Chicago SouthShore & South Bend Railroad Chancellor's Leadership Scholarship - for PNC students selected as Chancellor's leaders - Kristen Babcock, Chesterton.
  • A. J. Del Vecchio Endowment Fund/ Duneland Health Council Faculty Scholarship Fund for Nursing - is a Founders' Award for Nursing Excellence - Melissa Redlin, La Porte.
  • Patricia M. Daly Scholarship - for students majoring in Nursing at PNC - Dan Cole, Knox.
  • Duneland Health Council Scholarship - supports undergraduate scholarships for PNC Nursing students - Tiffany Burrell, Michigan City; Heather Correa, Westville; Toni Jackson, LaPorte; Julie Pritchard, Michigan City; Jeana LeRoy, Michigan City; Jadie Novak, LaPorte and Angela Pettis, LaPorte.
  • Family Express Corporation Chancellor's Leadership Scholarship - designated for PNC students selected as Chancellor's leaders - Olga Pecanac, Westville
  • Michael J. Harrigan Memorial Scholarship - a merit scholarship for PNC undergraduate students - Patti Kroening, LaPorte.
  • Sandra Calkins Kowalski Community Nursing Fund - supports scholarships for students pursuing an undergraduate Nursing degree with emphasis on community nursing or public health - Jessica Peterson, Valparaiso.
  • LaPorte Savings Bank Chancellor's Leadership Scholarship - designated for PNC students selected as Chancellor's leaders - Janelle Taylor, LaPorte.
  • Barbara and Bernie Lootens Scholarship - support for continuing undergraduate students at PNC majoring in Liberal Arts or Humanities - Rebecca Zurawski, LaPorte.
  • Rowley Bushue & Company LLP Endowed Scholarship for Accounting Students / Russell R. McWhorter Scholarship - for PNC Business students who are residents of La Porte County - Alison Herbst, Kingsford Heights.
  • Ruth Mitnick Memorial Scholarship - for PNC Nursing students - Patricia Coleman, Michigan City.
  • Patrick J. and Jacqueline E. Mulchay Scholarship - for PNC undergraduate students majoring in Nursing or healthcare profession - Denise Kandel, Kouts.
  • NIPSCO Chancellor's Leadership Scholarship - for PNC students selected as Chancellor's leaders - Erica Pauer, Hebron.
  • Robert and Betty Jane Schwarz Scholarship - for PNC students selected as Chancellor's leaders - Holly Koski, Michigan City.
  • Solid Waste District of La Porte County Chancellor's Leadership Scholarship - for PNC students selected as Chancellor's leaders - Justin Knoll, LaPorte.

  • Meredith and Helen Tom Scholarship - for PNC undergraduate Elementary Education majors - Joy Collmar, Rensselaer.
  • Van Eekeren Family Scholarship - for PNC undergraduate students - Taylor Coleman, Porter.
  • Dorothy Verdos Nursing Scholarship - supports undergraduate scholarships for PNC Nursing students - Joanna Curless, Knox; Isabel Nielsen, Union Mills.
  • Purdue North Central Alumni Association Endowed Scholarship / Women's Women In Engineering Scholarship - for students in the PNC College of Engineering and Technology - Valerie Powers, Hebron.
  • Pokagon Fund Endowed Scholarship - for a student residing in the townships of New Buffalo, Three Oaks, and Chikaming or in the state of Michigan - Michael Berry, New Buffalo.
  • PNC 2010 Senior Class Scholarship - established by outgoing seniors in the class of 2010 - Veronica Kessler, Valparaiso.
  • Connecting Mathematics for Elementary Teachers (CMET) Scholarship - for a Department of Education full-time sophomore student enrolled in class using the text "Connecting Mathematics for Elementary Teachers" - Lisa West, LaPorte.
