PNC Nursing Students Present Health Fair at Westville HS

Purdue University North Central bachelor's degree Nursing students in the Community Health Nursing Practicum will present a free health fair for the students of Westville High School on Nov. 17 from 8 to 11:30 a.m.

The fair, "Healthy Choices " offers nursing students a clinical experience with hands-on education in the community while providing teens with the information that will help them to make the right choices, under the clinical direction of Dr. Mario Ortiz, chair of the PNC Department of Nursing.

Activities will include interactive activities and displays that will provide information to educate students on making the right decisions about their health.

There will be both vendors and student presentations including:

  • Positive Influences to Teen Health (Path)
  • American Red Cross and disaster preparedness
  • Student Association for Nursing Development (STAND) will offer blood pressure screenings
  • LaPorte County Health Department and drug testing
  • Fitness instructors will teach aerobics and martial arts

There will also be booths on sleep and stress, disability awareness, smoking, drinking, food and nutrition, eating disorders, dental hygiene, texting and driving, hydration, knowing the signs and symptoms of stroke, basic first aid and hands-only CPR, anti-bullying and skin cancer.
