Over the last five years, Valparaiso has been making a conscious effort to incorporate physical activity into all aspects of life. Whether it was creating Central Park Plaza or implementing a skating rink downtown, Valpo has made uniting the town through fitness one of its highest priorities.
Central Park Plaza has been actively making an effort to provide fun and free events for citizens to attend. These events are sponsored by Porter Health Care System at the Porter Health Amphitheater.
I had the opportunity to go to a Mat Pilates class, led by Pumps Fitness Person and Pilates Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor Pat Twilla. It was my second time attending a Pumps Pilates class, and Pat made the class manageable for individuals of all skill sets. Whether you were a newbie or an avid pilates fan, the 60-minute course was just the right pace to accommodate everyone.
And if pilates isn’t really your thing, there are several other classes that are available to try. One of the most telling things about an initiative like this is the number of Valparaiso businesses and organizations that are willing to partner up and give back to the community. Business like Pumps Fitness, Extra Mile and Younique Yoga happily and proudly give back to the community through fitness.
