Porter Township School Corporation Weekly Update: January 27, 2014

Holly-Granzow-Emma-GrantDon't Graduate Early, Earn Dual Credits!

This past week I spent time at Ivy Tech in Valparaiso with Aco Sikoski, who is their Vice Chancellor. I was able to tour the campus and learn more about how we can increase dual credit opportunities for PTSC students.

Did you know that right now Boone Grove High School students can earn college credits while attending high school? These credits are either free or low-cost and transfer to other universities in Indiana. This allows our students to graduate with credits they will not have to pay for when they go to college and have credit for courses that they will not have to take. This allows our students to enter college ahead of the game, saves money, and allows students to complete college faster.

At Boone Grove High School we are constantly exploring opportunities to increase our dual credit offerings in the classes we offer and through our Porter County Career Center. If you would like to know more about dual credits, please contact Boone Grove High School.

Things to Know:

  • We will be working with our transportation department to do everything in our power to have the busses ready to run for school on Wednesday, January 29, 2014.
  • We have applied for waivers from the Department of Education for January 6, 7, 8, 2014. We were approved for a waiver for January 6 and 7. We have not yet received a response on January 8 and so we continue to wait to determine which days we will need to makeup. Watch for more information to come!
  • Every Wednesday is a 30-minute delayed start. If we have a 2-hour delay, students will arrive at school 2 hours after the regular start time for the building.
  • We are hiring substitute teachers! Please contact Linda Dusek at the administration building if you are interested in substitute teaching and she will help you start the application process and discuss qualifications.
  • We are also looking for bus drivers to drive our extra-curricular runs. If you are interested, please apply online.
