Powers Health hospitals recognized for commitment to high-quality care for heart disease, stroke

The acute care hospitals of Powers Health again were recognized for efforts to improve outcomes for patients with heart disease and stroke, earning accolades from the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines initiative.

Community Hospital in Munster, St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago and St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart were among 43 hospitals in Indiana recognized this year by the American Heart Association for consistently following up-to-date, research-based guidelines to ensure patients have access to lifesaving care. Such measures lead to more lives saved, shorter recovery times and fewer hospital readmissions.

“Adhering to the latest treatment guidelines and streamlining our processes ensures stroke patients receive timely and proper care,” said Jill Conner, executive director of Neuroscience Services for Powers Health. “This recognition from the American Heart Association demonstrates to patients our commitment to following standardized evidence-based protocol.”

Heart disease and stroke are the No. 1 and No. 5 causes of death in the United States, respectively, according to the American Heart Association.

“This recognition is a testament to the dedicated and tireless work the staff at all three of our acute care hospitals provide to our patients,” said Mary Miller, director of Cardiology Service Lines at Community Hospital and St. Catherine Hospital and director of Cardiovascular Research for Powers Health. “We will continue to set high standards and enhance the quality of life for those who turn to us for care.”
