On Tuesday evening, residents streamed into the Prairie Point clubhouse – located minutes away from U.S. 30 in Merrillville – for community and good food. Hosted by Weiss Entities, the complex put on a Prairie Point taste test for its residents to blindly choose their favorite eats. Tables were set up in the clubhouse with different food options from pizzas to chicken to cookies. It was a perfect event for all ages to get to meet one another.

“It's really good for building community within the complex and getting people involved,” said Mylan Rossetti, event organizer for Weiss Entities. It gives them something to do together and creates some unique things for them to do every month. They get to meet different people that live near them and near their neighbors.”

Providing opportunities to boost resident happiness is a priority for Weiss Entities. They also put great emphasis on events with Rossetti, researching to come up with the best event ideas. Rossetti then adapts the ideas to specifically tailor them to each complex. For this taste test, Rossetti chose Crumbl Cookies and french fries which are great for the diverse group of residents.

“At Weis Entities, especially in Prairie Point, we are intentional about making sure that we put on good quality events for people,” said Rossetti. We make sure that we are consistent with them and make sure that there's something unique at each event. We recently did a survey of residents about what they want to see and what they enjoy. That way we can cater to that audience and be intentional about doing things that are a little more unique.”

Dozens of residents got to taste test cookies, pizza, chicken, and fries. The food came from a variety of chains such as Chick-fil-A, Culver’s, and McDonald's. However, local establishments like BJ’s and Grand Park Cafe & Pizza were also represented. Once everyone tested their food they then got to put a sticker to mark their favorite. At the end of the event, Rossetti revealed where each food was from and the overall restaurant winner.

The event brought residents of all demographics out to the clubhouse. It was also a good excuse to meet fellow residents, especially for those who like food tastings like Albert Nguyen.

“It's a great experience to come out and meet people you might not see normally,” said Nguyen. I'm a big fan of food and food tastings. I am always a big part of eating food.”

These events, along with the great maintenance staff and great location, is why residents like Nguyen have stayed at Prairie Point for years.

“The location is great, and the staff is always helpful if there's a maintenance need,” said Nguyen. “Prairie Point is a nice place. I always recommend that people come to stay here.”
